Few Moda Mystery Box Review

A clothing mystery box - what could possibly go wrong?

After seeing a dozen Instagram ads for Few Moda’s Mystery Box, I thought to myself, I’ve got to give this a try. With this summer being undeniably less exciting than most, I decided to pay $48 (to a company I’ve never heard of before) for a mystery box complete with two pieces of high-end clothing. It is definitely a cool concept at a good price. How bad could it be?

Few Moda, The High Fashion Wholesale Club, is a membership service that allows members to shop 50-70% off retail by paying a yearly fee of $120. As per the website’s About page, “We often balk at the layers of cost and steep traditional retail markup in the industry and hesitate over the inconvenience and uncertainties that come with rental service. So, we decided to do it ourselves and bring the high fashion high quality pieces to all the girls out there that are just like us, without the high fashion prices.”

The website is sleek, enticing, and easy to use. Although there aren’t many designers available to sift through at the moment, the selection of stylish pieces at great prices is rather impressive for a startup. While looking through the Shop Now section, I came across many pieces that I would consider buying especially given their “under $60” price tags.

Now, moving onto what I actually bought. After heading to the Mystery Box page, I came across three options to choose from. First, you have the option to choose between a 2-item box for $40 (up to $280 in value) and a 3-item box for $50 (up to $420 in value). Next, you must choose a general size. This was the most difficult and frustrating part for me. The options ran from an XS to an XL, and as someone who varies in size from a medium to large, I was unsure what to go with. I ended up choosing a large, which may not have been my best choice since all items are nonrefundable.

Lastly, you must choose a style of clothing for the box. The options include Minimalist & Contemporary, Feminine & Whimsical, Fresh & Fun, and A Little Bit of Everything. Photos on the site represented each style with a few outfit examples. After much deliberation (around 8 minutes, to be exact) I chose Fresh & Fun.

One week later, I received my Few Moda Mystery Box in the mail. Maybe I hyped it up a little too much, but who doesn’t love receiving presents in the mail?! As I opened up the cardboard box, I definitely was a bit caught off guard by what I was seeing. In the plastic wrapping, I noticed white t-shirt material and a very sparkly floral pattern.

Let’s just say… the t-shirt was definitely not my style at all. I would not consider this top to be fun or fresh.

However, the floral midi dress turned out to be super pretty. I will definitely be incorporating it into my fall wardrobe with heeled booties and a jacket. As seen on Shopbop, the dress retailed for $135 and was on sale for $94.50 as of August 17th.

Do I recommend Few Moda’s Mystery Boxes? Yes - if you’re looking for a fun and different way to shop, this is a great idea to get a couple pieces you may have not picked out on your own! However, it is important to consider the minimal sizing options and the fact that boxes are nonrefundable. Know that you may not like any of the pieces sent to you. Although I only liked one of the two pieces I received, I am planning to upcycle this t-shirt into something more my style… stay tuned!
