Five Trendy and Inclusive Fashion Brands to Support in 2021

Over the course of the past year, many popular fashion brands have garnered significant attention  for a lack of inclusivity in their promotional materials, social media platforms, and, generally, their products. Brands have been critiqued for the lack of diversity in their models, both racially and in terms of size.

In light of the criticism, many brands stepped up their diversity both on Instagrams and on the racks. Here are a few brands that are embracing diversity and inclusivity.

Savage X Fenty

Rihanna’s brand Savage x Fenty has been revolutionary in the lingerie industry not only on the runway, but in their approach to marketing and in product availability. Largely hailed for their size diversity, ranging from an XS to a 3X in bralettes or clothing and a 32A to a 46H for bustiers and bras, the brand offers affordable, fashionable, and inclusive pieces for any occasion.

Selkie Collection

Selkie, founded by the creator of Wildfox, is a luxurious and romantic collective most popular for their iconic puff dresses in a wide selection of colors and patterns. The brand’s mission statement emphasizes that the brand was created with the main goal of size and cultural inclusivity, reflected in their advertising and products. Selkie’s size range is from XXS to 5X. They also have a goal of sustainability, producing only small quantities of each of their items.

Djerf Avenue

Djerf Avenue, a brand designed and operated by Instagram fashion icon Matilda Djerf, is an ethically-produced and sophisticated brand meant to “embody the confident, chic, and laid-back person on the go.” The pieces are timeless and simple, from simple white tank tops to more upscale and professional trousers and dresses. Djerf Avenue also has a goal of sustainability, producing limited collections in Portuguese factories operated under stricter European labor laws than fast fashion retailers.

For Love and Lemons

For Love and Lemons is a dreamy, feminine, ready-to-wear clothing collective aimed at sustainability and trend-setting. After reiterating their mission towards ethical production and diversity in early 2020, For Love and Lemons increased their size range to include from XS up to 3X, and also showed multiple efforts to diversify their internal team and their modeling cohort. Their Victoria’s Secret collaboration included sizes up to 40D. They’re a hotspot for beautiful bustiers, dresses, and they recently dipped into activewear.

Kulani Kinis

As seen on influencers like Natalie Zacek and Ava Jules, Kulani Kinis is an East-Australia based swimwear label that offers a collection of exclusive swimsuits for the sun-kissed summer lover. The brand launched in 2015 and has since come to offer a selection of bathing suits fit to any style: triangle tops to underwire tops are paired with cheeky to full-coverage bottoms, offering swimwear for any upcoming beach trip. Their sizes range from XS to 3X in many styles, and the style diversity ensures that anyone looking for one will find a fit on their site.
