Sustainably-Made Gifts For Everyone On Your List

As we draw closer to the holiday season, it's natural to feel overwhelmed with the sheer number of people you have to buy gifts for. Between your family, friends, and possibly one-too-many secret Santas you’ve been sucked into this year, gift-giving can be a major source of stress. And because of this stress, often the last thing on our minds is how sustainable the brands we support are. While many of us may have an idyllic world in our minds of only supporting retailers that encourage sustainable production, it may not always be convenient for us to research every brand we buy from. So I have taken it upon myself to compile a reference sheet of my go-to sustainable brands. For everyone on your list, I have laid out a brand or two that offer a variety of gift ideas, and they all happen to have a commitment to sustainability.

For Your Mom…

A simple necklace or pair of earrings are always a perfect go-to gift for your mom. These are both from Ana Luisa, a jewelry company that completely offsets all of their carbon emissions. They also have plans to use 100% recycled shipping materials in the near future. On their website you can find a variety of jewelry pieces, ranging from trendy to classic styles, as well as information as to what the company is doing to minimize their environmental impact. So if you're missing a gift for your mom, Ana Luisa is the perfect place to look!

Another recommendation would be great for your mom are these adorable sneakers from Rothy’s. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, are super comfortable, and can even be washed in your washing machine. You would never know that they happen to be made from recycled plastic. Rothy’s specializes in shoes and bags made from repurposed water bottles. So you can check your mom’s gift off your list and feel good about cutting down on plastic pollution in only a few clicks!

For Your Dad…

Chances are your dad has actually already heard of Patagonia. The outdoor accessories brand is already quite popular for cold weather gear. And they offer plenty of gift options, from fleeces to hats to water bottles, all of which would make a perfect gift for your dad this holiday season. But what you may not know is Patagonia has made it their mission to take responsibility for their environmental impact. They are committed to using recycled materials in their products and even donate a portion of their revenue to preserving the environment. So if you have no idea what to get your dad this year, Patagonia is the place I would hit up.

Both of these sweatshirts are from the brand Everlane. As a company, Everlane prides itself on its commitment to sustainability through a variety of initiatives. From using organic cotton to their plans to eliminate new plastic in their manufacturing by 2021, Everlane’s mission is to lessen their environmental footprint. Not to mention, these sweatshirts are super soft and available in a variety of colors, making them the perfect gift for your boyfriend this holiday season.

For Your Best Friend…

Both of these products were selected from a wide variety of gift options available at Nordstrom Rack. While they may not be the first brand you think of in terms of sustainability, Nordstrom as a company has recently pledged to donate to slow climate change, reduce single-use plastic in their manufacturing, and cut down on their greenhouse gas emissions significantly by 2025. And shopping at Nordstrom Rack ensures that you are purchasing products that would have otherwise gone to waste. Making it a can’t miss destination for sustainable holiday shopping this season.
