London Fashion Week September 2020: What to Expect

This year, London is taking on an entirely different perspective to Fashion Week with strict social distancing measures for physical shows in place and digital activations that will be available on www.londonfashionweek.co.uk. We’ve rounded up everything you’ll need to know to be a part of the action from September 17 - 22!

The Lineup

Last week, the British Fashion Council announced the provisional lineup for this September’s menswear and womenswear collections. Of the 87 events announced, 21 shows will be physical and digital, 5 will be entirely physical, and 61 will be entirely digital.

Setting the Scene

This September, London Fashion Week is combining menswear and womenswear collections for a gender neutral showcase of RTW collections. The push for inclusivity is at the forefront of the fashion industry today and will hopefully be translated to LFW SS21 shows. With more shows than ever before taking over the digital space, Fashion Week will hopefully take on a whole new meaning to consumers who would not otherwise have access to Fashion Week.

The Shows

Some SS21 shows we’re looking forward to this year at LFW include Burberry, Victoria Beckham, Temperley London, and Charlotte Knowles. Obviously, Burberry and Victoria Beckham are big players in luxury fashion. As of July, Burberry is planning to hold a digital facing event on September 17th, 2020. It will be a “live physical presentation that is open for all to experience digitally.” In a statement released by Chief Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci, the show will take place outdoors because “especially recently, we have all yearned to reconnect again and for this show, I wanted to celebrate these feelings by bringing our community together in a creative experience that takes place within the beautiful, natural landscape of Britain.”

The teams at Victoria Beckham and Temperley London have not yet released specific details regarding their shows. Charlotte Knowles is a new designer I’ve been eyeing for a while now. Her collections are fun and feminine, with an undefinable twist. I am excited to see what this brand brings to the runway for their SS21 womenswear collection.

Looking Back on Iconic London Fashion Week Moments

Although LFW will be different this year, it surely will be memorable. As an ode to high fashion, let’s take a look at some iconic moments from previous London Fashion Week shows.
