Glam Spider Web Makeup Look with Liah Morley

19-year-old Liah Morley from Perth, Australia is easily one of the most creative beauty influencers around. Her highly detailed eye makeup tutorials are not only addictive to watch, but completely doable…with a little practice, of course.

We’re absolutely obsessed with Liah’s glam spider web makeup look for Halloween this year. All you’ll need are the makeup essentials in your collection as well as some gems, eyelash glue, and black lipstick. Plus, we got the chance to ask her a few questions about herself and her art.

First, tell us a little bit about your journey with makeup.

I have always been creative and loved art at school, and watched YouTubers such as NikkieTutorials and Michelle Phan since I was around 11 years old. In my study breaks during my final year of school, I began to start playing around with the makeup I owned and started my Instagram page that same year in 2018. In the beginning, I didn't have a particular vision and just posted when I had free time to sit down and create makeup looks on my bed. I started off primarily focusing on creative and artistic eye makeup. However, as I've grown, I started to incorporate more full-face makeup looks, especially this Halloween period, and I am absolutely loving them so far! Whilst my account began to grow in 2019, it wasn't until this year when I felt as if I could truly experiment with makeup and in turn, I have never been happier with the content I have created and I have also never felt as creative as I do now.

What inspired you to create the Glam Spider Web look?

I saw @eeerinr create a spider web look on Instagram, taking inspiration from @teoxnagy who is also on Instagram, and I absolutely fell in love with it! I had done a similar spider web look last year. However, I never got around to posting it, as I felt it wasn't something I was truly happy with. I initially thought to recreate the one I created from last year, but after seeing Erin's look, I had to give it a go! Since I tried a similar look last year, I knew what to expect and which aspects to focus on to ensure they were as clean as possible, such as placing the rhinestones correctly. Whilst Halloween isn't really celebrated much here in Australia, I absolutely love the aesthetics of Halloween, so I wanted to incorporate glam makeup within the Halloween looks I create this year in order to give as many ideas to as many people as I could.

What are your top tips for beginners attempting creative makeup looks like this one for Halloween?

I find watching YouTube or Instagram videos of my favourite creators super helpful! I find they give invaluable advice that they may have learned through trial and error, and provide such great realistic techniques that I can try myself. Practice definitely does make perfect, so I highly recommend planning your look in advance or even trying it out beforehand so you aren't stressing too much about your makeup if you're going out for Halloween! Most importantly, have fun and definitely do not stress if it doesn't turn out the way you plan! I struggled with the lines underneath the rhinestones with this look in particular. However, once I put the rhinestones on I instantly felt better about my mistakes.
