My Relaxing Shower Routine

I know that most people take baths to relax, but that’s just not really my vibe. A large part of what makes me relax is feeling fresh and clean after stepping out of the shower, and baths just don’t do that for me. If I am feeling gross or down, I love to take a hot shower. Oh, and warning: I take really long showers (just ask my roommates).

I start by turning my water on (hot, duh), and adjust my lighting and vibe. I don’t love a super bright bathroom when I’m trying to wind down, and I usually shower in the evening or late at night. Sometimes I listen to music, but sometimes I let myself just think and breathe in the shower, and it's my own form of meditation.

If I’m in need of an extreme self-care shower. I’ll buy eucalyptus leaves from Whole Foods or any local market, and then either lay them on the ground of my shower or from the shower head. When the hot water hits the leaves, essential oils are released and you have yourself a relaxing and renewing steam shower.

The first thing I like to do when I get in the shower is wash my face. I like to keep it simple with the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser. Then, I gently exfoliate my face with the Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash.

Then, I wash my body. I love using Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap. This organic soap can be used for so many purposes, including washing dishes, clothes, and dogs. Plus, on top of the product being organic, it is also fair trade, non GMO, and packaged in a recycled bottle. This is a soap that leaves you clean, and feeling good about your purchase.

After I’ve already exfoliated my face, I move onto exfoliating my body. For this, I like using a natural scrub, because many scrubs contain microbeads which are super harmful to the ocean. My current favorite is the Coconut Coffee Scrub from Frank Body, which is completely natural and vegan. The coffee grounds exfoliate off any dead skin, and the coconut oil leaves your skin so soft and moisturized. If I’m not using this scrub, I normally look for something sugar-based.

Finally, I get around to washing my hair. For this, I use the Kristen Ess Signature Shampoo and Conditioner. These are a new find for me, but were formulated by celebrity hairstylist, Kristen Ess, and are available at Target! So far, I love this combo.

After I complete all these steps, I basically just stand under the hot water for as long as I feel like it. During my shower, I am away from all distractions, and can fully relax by taking my time to use all my products, and thinking about whatever I want to spend that time thinking about, which is sometimes nothing at all. By the time I towel off, moisturize, and slip into pajamas, I feel like a brand new person.
