Past to Present: Fashion Icons Through Time

As a girl who’s had Vogue on hand since age 8, I’ve followed many fashion icons over the years. It’s a hobby of mine to keep up with their day-to-day and runway looks. Many of these women have become role models for me, which makes clipping pics of their outfits that much more fun. There are countless women, past and present, who can claim the title of “Fashion Icon,” but these four women, whose fashion sense is timeless and whose beauty is equally matched, are my all-time favorites.

Audrey Hepburn

Let’s start with Audrey Hepburn. Audrey is the star of my favorite movie, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She stars as Holly Golightly, the carefree yet chic woman trotting around New York City (her one true love). Audrey’s looks as Holly are iconic -- her updo with her huge sunglasses are my day-to-day inspiration. The big diamond earrings and pearl necklaces add the perfect touch of 60’s chic. My favorite thing about her character is that she always has the perfect accessory to spice up a simple outfit. In life imitating art, Audrey was also known for sporting all-black outfits in everyday life. Hmmm... sounds familiar…

Jackie Kennedy Onassis

Next, is Jackie Kennedy Onassis or “Jackie O”. Jackie O heavily influenced fashion in the White House during the Kennedy presidency. At the time, women across America (and the world) imitated her style - from her classic Oleg Cassini suits to her legendary pillbox hats to her famous Mr. Kenneth bouffant hairstyle. She mixed preppy, classy styles into her daily routines as the First Lady. Some of my favorite looks of hers are her monochromatic pastel outfits. This trend of sporting head-to-toe pastel has resurged, and I’m here for it.

Tyra Banks

Another one of my all-time favorite icons is Tyra Banks. My favorite looks of Tyra’s are her catwalk looks. Tyra is well known for her fierce attitude and how empowering she is to women around the world, myself included. Because having the right attitude is just as important as dressing well, Tyra makes my Top Four list. While many people think she seems intimidating from her time on America’s Next Top Model, she always proves to be knowledgeable about fashion. My favorite look of hers is her YSL runway look from Fall/Winter of 1993. Tyra looks elegant and sophisticated. I would absolutely love to show up to a day at work like this.

Hailey Baldwin Bieber

Lastly, I need to include my fellow Long Island native, Hailey Baldwin Bieber. The spotlight has been on Hailey since she was a young girl because of her famous relatives. Over the years, Hailey has always upped her street-style game. These street style looks inspire me each week, and I always have fun recreating her looks for less. Whether Hailey is running out solo to grab a coffee, or strutting the streets with Justin or Kendall, her looks never fail to thrill me. My favorite look of hers was the white t-shirt dress, black leather jacket, and white chunky boots. She paired her outfit with a pair of chunky sunglasses (can you tell these are my favorite?) Everything about this look to me screams 10/10.

The best thing about all of these outfits is that you can dress each of them up or down. I recommend heading to Google Images to search these women’s iconic looks to find more inspiration.

Happy searching!

X,

Jolie Zindman
