The Best Fashion Shows of 2020

2020 has truly been the year that the fashion industry has changed. Due to the pandemic, fashion designers were forced to get creative with virtual runway shows and operating at limited capacity. With the Met Gala being canceled and entire fashion weeks going digital, the world of fashion has completely evolved in just the course of one year. Here are 6 of the best fashion shows of 2020.

Moschino Spring Summer 2021

Creative Director of Moschino, Jeremy Scott, got really creative with Moschino’s Spring Summer 2021 show. Due to the global pandemic, Scott had to think outside of the box, and opted for 30-inch marionette models instead of runway models to showcase his collection. The Creative Director even made marionette models for fashion’s most prominent figures, including Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, and British Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Edward Enninful. Inspired by Theatre de la Mode, the collection consisted of beautiful gold, pink, and blue tones, with shoulder bags. Each design, garment, and fabric had to be re-proportioned to fit each marionette.

Versace Spring Summer 2021

Donatella Versace’s “under the sea”-inspired, beach-themed collection delivered a series of colorful, playful, and beachy looks. Due to the pandemic, the show operated at a limited capacity, with only Versace employees viewing the collection in-person, while the rest of the world live-streamed the show. The collection consisted of beautiful crystal-encrusted dresses, with patterns of sea creatures like starfish and shells. “I wanted to create something disruptive, something that could be in tune with what has changed inside all of us. To me that meant dreaming of a new world. A world made of popping colors and fantastic creatures and a world in which we can all coexist peacefully,” said Donatella Versace about her Spring Summer 2021 Collection.

Jacquemus Fall 2020 Ready-To-Wear

The Jacquemus Fall 2020 Ready-To-Wear collection was arguably one of the most popular fashion shows of the year, particularly within the high fashion Twitter community. Fashion Designer and Founder of Jacquemus, Simon Porte Jacquemus, broke the internet last year with his Spring 2020 show, where he used a lavender field as the runway for his show. The Fall 2020 collection consisted of beige, olive, and brown tones, with their iconic mini satchel bags, where models, Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, and Adut Akech graced the runway.

Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2020

Creative Director of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton, went bold for this collection using red streaks in the models’ hair, and shades of red in multiple looks. The collection consisted of beautiful gowns, coats, and suits. Models Imaan Hammam, Sora Choi, and Kaia Gerber were featured for this collection. The show also featured heart patterns as a ‘Love Letter to Women.’

Louis Vuitton Fall 2020 Menswear

Virgil Abloh’s Fall 2020 Menswear line took inspiration from blue skies and fluffy white clouds. Abloh decided to make his fourth Louis Vuitton collection all about the suit, featuring 56 different suits with blue and white cloud and sky patterns, and shades of navy blue, black, and various other colors. “Something you haven’t seen from me before: the suit. But with menswear, it can be like an automated track, so there are different breakdowns as the show progresses. I’d been considering what work means today and what metaphors are for that,” Virgil Abloh explained to Vogue.

Christopher John Rogers Fall 2020 Ready-To-Wear

Consisting of 40 looks, Christopher John Rogers’ Fall 2020 Ready-To-Wear show featured bold and bright neon colors. Rogers showcased models wearing big, beautiful afros, while sporting gorgeous shades of bright yellow, green, orange, purple, red, and pink. The collection featured vibrant dresses, tops, and blazers made of silk. Earlier this year, Rogers also took home a CFDA award for Emerging Designer of the Year.
