Dreaming of Bath

Need a little getaway? I’ve got you covered. Last year, I took a solo overnight trip to Bath and it’s one of my top three favorite trips (along with Lisbon and Rome) I took abroad. While there’s still a long way to go before it’ll be safe to travel again, take a little at home getaway and escape to Bath, England.

Just an hour and a half train ride from London, Bath is a beautiful, historic city perfect for a weekend getaway.

While in Bath, I stayed at the Gainsborough Hotel Bath. This hotel is definitely on the pricier side, but it’s without a doubt worth the money if you’re looking to splurge for a night. Not only is the hotel itself beautiful (and the views aren’t bad either), but the staff was so helpful in everything from room service to Bath attractions you can’t miss!

When I arrived in Bath on a Friday afternoon, after dropping my stuff off at the hotel, I made my way to see the Roman Baths museum, which was  a short walk from the Gainsborough Hotel. Built by the Romans between the 1st and 4th century, the natural hot spring complex has become one of the city’s most popular attractions.

One of the great things about traveling alone is that you can do whatever your heart desires. After the Roman Baths, I wanted to take in the city before it got dark and stopped by the beautiful Royal Crescent Hotel, another famous hotel in Bath recognized as one of the greatest examples of Georgian architecture in the UK.

For my second day in Bath, I was in full tourist mode. Thanks to the recommendations of the staff at the Gainsborough, in just a few short hours I hit most of Bath’s famous attractions. First, I stopped by Pulteney Bridge. Built in 1769, the Pulteney Bridge is one of four bridges in the world to house shops on both sides of it. For the best view, make sure to stop at the Parade Gardens below it!

If you’re looking to learn something on your trip, Bath has no shortage of museums. The Holburne Museum is arguably the most famous and is home to pieces by some of England’s most famous painters. But the Fashion Museum Bath and the Victoria Art Gallery are great places to stop too if you have the time!

Some more snapshots from wandering around Bath.
