Your Local Getaway Itinerary

What has quite possibly been the strangest summer of our lifetime is suddenly at its end.

If you’re anything like me, you might feel like you’ve been quarantining forever, yet somehow the season has managed to fly by. This said, we still have a bit of time left to check off a few items on our summer bucket lists, even if we have to do so in a less conventional way. Take advantage of the remaining warm weather to research some local destinations that you may not have given much thought to in the past, and plan an in-state getaway with friends or family. I’ve provided a few recommendations below for how you might spend your day.

Morning Hike

Whether you live near a waterfront hiking trail or the closest you can find is a town park, start your day off soaking up the fresh air. Get your legs moving with anything from an uphill climb to a casual stroll.

Lunch at an Outdoor Café

Relax at a small café that you’ve never tried before. Try looking for a restaurant that uses local, fresh ingredients in their meals - chances are it’ll be one of the better meals you’ve had in a while.

Shopping Small

See if you can find a village or city center with small boutiques to spend a few hours at. You’ll find some amazing pieces that are both unique and supportive of your local economy!

Touring a Local Attraction

Every town has a story. Even if museums aren’t your thing, do some research to find out if there’s a more involved tour you and your friends can take part in. In my case, we chose the pedal tour to acquaint ourselves with some local bars. ;)

Dining at a Winery or Brewery

Depending on your climate, one of these may be easier to find than the other. Regardless of which you end up at, try out some local flavors, paired with their recommended appetizer or dinner.

Enjoy a Snack as the Sun Sets

Close out your busy day with an ice cream cone by the water. You’ve worked hard, you deserve it.

No matter where you live, you’re bound to find a town, large or small, that offers an opportunity for a few of these activities. Don’t let the summer get away without making some memories! How will you spend the rest of your August?
