Your Guide to Chic Camping

It’s finally summertime, which means outdoor restaurants, dancing the night away on rooftop bars and seeing a different concert every other weekend. Well, that’s what summer used to mean pre-apocalyptic 2020. Unfortunately, this summer is not like most. As heartbreaking as it is to miss out on a lot of the events that we look forward to when warm weather hits, it doesn’t mean we can’t make our own fun this summer ... “quarantine style.”

The best way to have a fun weekend this summer is to grab a bunch of friends or your side piece and spend some time in nature. Camping is for cool girls. And, no, I’m not talking about your lame sleepaway girl scout camp where you were forced into ice breakers until you cried. I’m talking about camping in style or “glamping,” as some pretentious bitches would call it. So no, in this article we’re not going to discuss which tent is most durable or what type of sleeping bag you have to buy for $250 so you don’t get hypothermia. Camping in style is for adults and we don’t waste our time or money on a God-awful experience we pretend to love for Instagram. We use that money towards necessities like tequila and a log cabin. No offense to my outdoorsy nature lovers, but we all know that you don’t LOVE sleeping on the ground with bugs for a week straight. And if you say you do, you’re probably lying.

All passive aggressiveness aside, I’m here to share my ideal camping trip guide with you all.

Cool Girl Camping Bible:

Choose your tribe

  • This is the MOST important part of your camping trip.

  • Choose people to come on your trip who won’t lead you to dive head first down the cliff.

  • Choose a group or person you know you’ll have fun with.

  • No one wants to be stuck in a beautiful setting with Sarah who’s complaining about the bugs and fresh air every five minutes. Leave Sarah at home.

Decide on your location

  • I recommend choosing somewhere that isn’t a super long drive away.

  • 1-4 hours maximum distance from home.

  • Somewhere that has activities: hiking, kayaking, a spa even …

Book a cabin on Airbnb

  • Self explanatory: find a cozy cabin that meets the budget and expectations of the group.

  • You might think you want to stay in a tent all weekend, but you don't. I promise you. Remember: we’re adults and this is cool girl camping.

Be the Hostess with the Mostess

The title “hostess with the mostess” is thrown around too often to women who simply don’t deserve it. During your camping trip, you will have to earn this title. You will earn hostess with the mostess by preparing the best meals, coolest cocktails, and planning fun events. This may seem like a lot of pressure, but that’s why I’m here to help you with all of the necessities.

Entertaining Snacks:

  • Charcuterie board (obviously)

  • Dips!

  • Veggie Tray

  • S’mores

  • Nostalgic Candy

  • Chocolate and Cheese Fondue

  • CLOTHES & WATER-approved Cocktails

Adventurous Activities:

  • Grill on the fire

  • ATV rentals

  • Zip lining

  • Horseback riding

  • Kayaking

  • White water rafting

Relaxing Activities:

  • Spa day

  • Hiking and a picnic

  • Grab a blanket and go stargazing

  • Drinking games: For The Girls, Cards Against Humanity

  • Cupcake baking contest

  • Wine tasting

  • Photo shoot day! (This may be the real reason you came on the trip)

To Add an Extra Sparkle:

  • Buy matching pajamas for all your guests

  • Have the spa come to you (book an hour long mani/pedi set up in your cabin)

  • Hire a chef for the night to cook you and your gang a 4-course meal

The biggest piece of advice I can give to make your camping trip more glamorous is get creative! Camping doesn’t always have to mean bug bites and hiking. It can be a retreat for you and your significant other or group of girlfriends to go and get away from quarantine life. Take advantage of this opportunity to let go and enjoy yourself in nature.
